A MicroTCA MCH or Carrier Hub is the system's chassis manager, communication switch and clock controller combined into one module
It handles:
System management: monitors and controls AMC modules, power supplies, fans, temperatures, and hot-swap events.
Backplane switching: provides Ethernet, PCIe, Serial RapidIO (SRIO), or other fabric connections between modules.
Clock distribution: supplies synchronized reference clocks to the system.
Chassis coordination: communicates with each module through the Intelligent Platform Management Interface or IPMI.
A MicroTCA switch AMC module only provides the communication switch functionality.
As a standardized platform of PICMG MicroTCA systems are typically used in medical applications, telecommunications, defense as well as in measurement systems for industrial and scientific applications (e.g. particle physics).
